Cheap Holidays vs Good Value Holidays: Why They’re Not The Same Thing

It’s easy to assume the cheapest holiday is the best deal.

After all, if Hotel A costs £1,000 and Hotel B costs £2,000, surely Hotel A is better value?

Not necessarily.

Sometimes spending more actually costs less once you look at what you’re getting in return.

The trick isn’t finding the cheapest holiday.

It’s finding the holiday that gives you the most value for your family, budget and travel style.

The Holiday Maths Nobody Talks About

A holiday isn’t just the headline price.

It’s:

•Airport transfers

•Excursions

•Drinks

•Snacks

•Entertainment

•Water parks

•Kids clubs

•Extra activities

•Eating out

Two holidays can look wildly different once those extras are added.

A Real Example: Rixos Premium Belek

At first glance, the Rixos Premium Belek can seem expensive.

It often sits significantly higher in price than many other all-inclusive hotels in Turkey.

For some families that immediately puts it into the “too expensive” category.

But that’s where value becomes more important than price.

Guests typically receive access to Land of Legends Theme Park, and depending on the package and season, access to attractions within the Nickelodeon area as well.

For a family with children, those tickets alone can represent a substantial saving.

Suddenly you’re not comparing:

Hotel A = £2,500

against

Hotel B = £1,800

You’re comparing:

£2,500 including entertainment, water park access and multiple family days out

against

£1,800 plus additional spending once you’re there.

The gap starts to look very different.

The Cheapest Holiday Can Sometimes Cost More

Imagine booking a bargain hotel.

The room is small.

The kids are bored by day three.

The evening entertainment isn’t great.

You start booking trips.

You eat out a few times.

You pay for taxis.

You buy snacks every afternoon.

By the end of the holiday, you’ve spent far more than expected.

The holiday wasn’t cheap.

It was simply low-cost at the booking stage.

What I Look For Instead

When I’m researching holidays, I often ask:

What would I otherwise pay extra for?

Things like:

•Water parks

•Theme parks

•Family attractions

•Premium drinks

•Large family rooms

•Childcare

•Airport transfers

•Beach clubs

If those are already included, the overall value can be excellent.

The Best Value Holiday Isn’t Always The Cheapest

Sometimes it is.

Sometimes the bargain really is a bargain.

But often the best value holiday is the one that quietly includes everything you’d have ended up paying for anyway.

That’s why I always look beyond the headline price.

Because a good holiday isn’t about spending the least.

It’s about getting the most from what you spend.
