The Questions You Should Ask Before You Book (But Most People Don’t)

The Questions You Should Ask Before You Book (But Most People Don’t)

Most people book a holiday based on photos, price, and dates.

And while those things matter, they’re rarely what makes or breaks the trip.

The holidays that work - the ones that feel easy, relaxing, and actually enjoyable - usually come down to a few questions that don’t get asked often enough.

1. Will the room actually work for us?

Not “does it sleep five?”

But: will it work for five?

Think about:

•space to move around

•storage for bags

•bed layouts

•whether everyone has somewhere to properly sleep

If the room doesn’t work, the whole holiday feels harder - no matter how nice the hotel looks.

2. What’s nearby if we want to leave the hotel?

Even on relaxed holidays, most people don’t want to be completely stuck.

Ask:

is there a town, promenade, or beach nearby?

can we walk out for an ice cream or a wander?

or will we need taxis every time?

A little flexibility can make a big difference.

3. How easy is the transfer?

Transfer time matters more than people realise.

A long or complicated transfer can turn arrival day into an endurance test - especially with kids.

Always check:

•how long it roughly takes

•whether it’s shared or private

•and whether it’s worth it for the resort you’re choosing

4. Who is this holiday really designed for?

Every resort has a personality.

Some are:

•brilliant for younger children

•perfect for teens

•calm and adult-focused

•lively and entertainment-led

The key is choosing somewhere that matches your family - not just one that’s labelled “family friendly”.

5. What will our days actually look like?

Instead of thinking about the highlight moments, think about the ordinary ones.

Ask yourself:

•where will we eat breakfast?

•where will we spend most afternoons?

•what happens if we just want a quiet day?

If the day-to-day feels easy, the holiday usually is.

6. What happens if something goes wrong?

Delays, room issues, and little hiccups happen.

It’s worth knowing:

•who you contact if there’s a problem

•whether there’s support in resort

•and what help is available if plans change

Peace of mind is part of the holiday.

7. Is this cheap… or is it good value?

This one ties everything together.

A holiday can look like a bargain and still cost you in comfort, stress, or energy.

Good value means:

•the right space

•the right setup

•and a holiday that feels easier, not harder

The question that really matters

Before you book anything, ask:

Will this make the week feel calmer - or more complicated?

Because the right holiday doesn’t just look good on confirmation emails.

It feels good while you’re actually there.
